Chapter: 02-Nucleus

Block: 2 / 71 Bullets: 5

Nuclear Envelope

  • The nuclear envelope is a double-membrane boundary that encloses the genetic material of the nucleus.
  • The inner nuclear membrane and outer nuclear membrane run roughly parallel to each other around the nucleus.
  • The perinuclear cisterna is the narrow space between the inner and outer nuclear membranes.
  • Nuclear pores are openings in the nuclear envelope where the inner and outer membranes join.
  • Nuclear pores allow selected molecules to move between the nucleus and cytoplasm rather than leaving the nuclear envelope as a sealed barrier.
